Obama On Patriotism

By  |

I thought this was another great speech by the Illinois senator, not only because it frames patriotism in a way that I think a majority of Americans can relate to, but also because it speaks to the idea of dissent being patriotic.

Take a look…

What did you think?

    That was a fantastic speech, I intended to skip through it but got sucked in. The idea that dissent and respectfully disagreeing is patriotic is key to the health of our democracy. I am duly impressed and wish I heard more speeches like this one from other leaders. It’s inspiring and sets the tone for political discourse. I love that he drew a line and said that we should all thank our troops. period. full stop. and even thanked McCain for his service. Simply inspiring.

    “I serve as a blank screen on which people of vastly different political stripes project their own views.” –Barack Obama in The Audacity of Hope

    And he’s very good at it.

    @Tully
    He really said that? I thought that was what people were saying about him. That level of political self awareness is actually scary.
