Xerath Exclusive Song Stream: “Nuclear Self Eradication”

Xerath

Today’s a good day at Gun Shy Assassin, better than yesterday. That is because we are very proud to be bringing you an exclusive first listen to U.K.-based experimental progressive metal outfit Xerath’s forthcoming new album, II. The record drops May 3 through Candlelight Records, but you can hear a track from that effort — called “Nuclear Self Eradication” — right now, after the jump.

II is the follow-up to Xerath’s 2009 debut, I, and was tracked at Foel Studio in Wales, where the likes of Porcupine Tree, Napalm Death, Primordial, and even Paul Rogers have recorded past efforts. The new disc was mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen (Aborted, Hatesphere, Pestilence). The record will feature a guest performance from Emil Werstler of Daath, which is fucking rad.

For those not familiar with the mighty Xerath, the band first formed in 2007 as an experiment to combine film score composition with extreme groove-based heavy metal. The band cite Strapping Young Lad, Meshuggah, and Dimmu Borgir as major influences, and you can definitely hear those influences in their sound.

If you love riffs and live for punishing, groovy metal, then you definitely need to check this track out. After all, what would it hurt? Well, the truth is it wouldn’t hurt — which is why you should just press play and bang that head of yours as the awesomeness of Xerath take hold. If the song doesn’t immediately play, just be patient — it will play…eventually. And if it doesn’t, just click on that little bar underneath the song title, and then press play. Sorry for the inconvenience. The good news is you can play it over and over again, if you want. I have been listening to the tune for a day now, and I’m fucking convinced — these dudes understand what makes metal great and Xerath are probably one of the most talented new bands going right now. If you like Meshuggah, this will give you major wood.
