Maryland Deathfest Will Go On With Or Without Sonar

By  |

It must go on

Oh no! The Sonar, a pretty rad music venue in downtown Baltimore, has been shut down for good due to an expired liquor license and a dispute amongst the club’s owners.

But don’t worry, those of you with tickets to the Maryland Deathfest later this month…the show will go on, even if Sonar isn’t back in business by May 26 — the first day of the legendary four-day festival.

“Yes, we know about Sonar. It was just brought to our attention,” the organizers of the fest revealed. “Please DO NOT panic. The festival will still go on as planned. If Sonar does not end up working, we already have a[n] alternative site in the same area that would have a similar set up, so you do not need to worry, and you do not need to consider changing plans.”

This year’s festival features Coroner, Nuclear Assault, Cathedral, Nunslaughter, Lock Up, Marduk, Kylesa, Repugnant, Exhumed, Ghost, Exhorder, and Corrosion of Conformity.

Good news for people who booked hotels and flights and such. I’m glad it will still happen. The organizers of that fest are stand-up dudes. I know guys who would’ve just grabbed up all the money and moved to Amsterdam.

Let’s also hope that Sonar re-opens at some point. Venues like Sonar are few and far between.
