Apple calls in the Cavalry after tablet details leaked

International marketing news reports that Apple’s lawyers have been assembled to contact a Silicon Valley blog that was offering considerable sums of money for images of its tablet computer – which is rumoured to be made public on 27 January.

Brand Republic states that the Valleywag blog was offering sums between $10,000 and $50,000 for pictures or video of Apple’s highly anticipated touch screen computer.

As the unveiling date draws closer, stories and speculation have been rife on news and blogging websites. This may be down to the limited details and specifications announced by Apple. Despite the speculation and Valleywag blog’s money on offer, few details about the new tablet have been leaked.

Apple’s lawyers, Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe sent a letter to Valleyway, accusing them of of taking matters too far: ”While Apple values and appreciates vibrant public commentary about its products, we believe you and your company crossed the line by offering a bounty for the theft of Apple’s trade secrets. Such an offer is illegal and Apple insists that you immediately discontinue the scavenger hunt”.

Ironically, whilst the letter was in transit, The Wall Street Journal revealed further details about the tablet, saying that it will have a virtual keyboard and strong gaming capabilities. Television is also reported to feature heavily on the Apple, with the journal stating that Apple has pitched a ‘Best of TV’ service to US networks with cable-like packages.

Such speculation and leaking of information, despite Apple’s protests, will only seek to publicise the launch of an undoubtedly successful product further.
