CIM includes social marketing group

The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) is reported to have created a specialised Market Interest Group (MIG) for social marketing, to look at the growing relevance of social marketing in society.

Marketing news channels report that in recent years, social marketing has developed as the en vogue communications medium for both private and public sector organisations. Popular social media channels include Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Flickr, with more organisations embracing such sites to boost their commercial impact.

The newly formed group is to be a point of reference for all UK marketers to develop their knowledge on social marketing techniques.

Director of research and professional development at the Charted Institute of Marketing, David Thorpe, commented on the MIG, stating: ”We believe that social marketing is set to assume a vitally important role in best marketing practice. We are delighted to have the opportunity to demonstrate and support this new Social Marketing Market Interest Group and would hope that all social marketing practitioners will want to be a part of it.”

Meanwhile, Veronica Sharp, the elected chair of the group, said that: ”This new group is an ideal opportunity for practitioners in social marketing from around the world, to come together to discuss the key issues and share ideas on how to address them.”
