MP's grill Kraft after new company admissions

Marketing news is rife with food puns like ”Kraft melting under pressure” or ”Kraft swallowing Cadbury,” in the wake of the US food giant Kraft taking over the British tradition that is Cadbury.

Kraft executives were called to a meeting yesterday by angry MP’s from the Commons Business Select Committee and trade union Unite to explain their recent moves and provide assurances for Cadbury workers.

The meeting in Committee Room 15 of the House of Commons, commenced with a frosty air, as MP Lindsay Hoyle commented furiously: ”Would you say that this is a management that is remote, smug, aloof and most of all duplicitous?” Unfortunately for Kraft, who must have felt that they were [excuse the aforementioned pun] in a melting pot as Unite nodded their agreement.

The Telegraph reports that the meeting was so heated that Hoyle brandished a Terry’s Chocolate Orange at Kraft executives, likening them to Vikings, saying ”Vikings came to York to pillage, Kraft went to York and did exactly the same thing – you pillaged and asset-stripped the company.”

Kraft hit back, with Marc Firestone of Kraft defending the company’s decision to close the Somerdale factory, after making keeping it open a key pledge in the initial bid battle. Firestone commented that the company was ”terribly sorry” and ”for at least two years, there will be no further closure of manufacturing facilities in the UK.”

Nevertheless, thisismoney.co.uk reports that Kraft’s research of the Somerdale was flawed, with the company admitting they ‘Googled’ the factory.
