New campaign to mark Coca-Cola’s 125th anniversary

Coca-Cola will celebrate its 125th anniversary by launching a retro television and billboard advertising campaign.

The new television advert features segments of many classic Coca-Cola adverts over the years, and features the ’I'd like to teach the world to sing’ song which fronted their revolutionary 1971 hilltop campaign.

Marketing Week reported that the soft drinks company will also present fans with the opportunity to feature in retro Coca-Cola ads, by superimposing their face onto previous posters.

Coca-Cola staff will be handing out free bottles of the product in London to mark the occasion, and there are also plans to transport five giant glass bottles replicas fitted with bubble machines into busy consumer areas.

Other marketing news stated that new 125th anniversary packaging is set to be launched – as well as a limited edition range of glass bottles, which will be available at Selfridges.

Coca-Cola has a history of producing classic television adverts, including the 1979 ’Mean Joe Greene’ campaign and the iconic Christmas trucks campaign.

The company is also famously responsible for Santa Claus being dressed in a red suit.

Coca-Cola’s group director of worldwide licensing recently hinted in Retail Merchandiser at the upcoming campaign, claiming: “The story of Coca-Cola is exciting and vibrant, and we look forward to showcasing it again in a new way in 2011.”
