Rooney dropped from Coca-Cola
Wayne Rooney has been dropped as the face of Coke Zero.
Coca-Cola made the decision to axe the England star shortly after he was charged for swearing into a TV camera during a live game.
Rooney, who had been the face of Coca-Cola since 2004, received a two-match ban by the FA after the incident and his actions appear to have cost him his £600,000 a year contract with the soft drinks giant.
A statement from Coca-Cola reported on Marketing Week read: “Our contract with Wayne Rooney came to an end last year and we mutually agreed that we would not renew out relationship.”
Marketing news sources claimed Coca-Cola bosses were beginning to lose patience with Rooney after rumours the Manchester United forward had been having sex with prostitutes whilst wife Coleen was pregnant.
It was decided to remove Rooney’s face from all Coke Zero products shortly after the scandal emerged but Coke had claimed the relationship with Rooney was ‘ongoing.’
The Daily Mail report that Sky have also shelved plans to record a fourth series of hit TV show ‘Wayne Rooney’s Street Striker.’
Rooney will still earn over £12 million this year from his contract at Manchester United as well as an additional £2.5 million from sponsorship deals with Nike and EA Sports.
